Right off the ship (walkable)
- Junkanoo Beach - a free public beach about a 5-minute walk west of the port. Bring a towel; rent a chair for a few dollars.
- Bay Street & the Straw Market - duty-free shops, jewelry, and handmade Bahamian straw goods. Haggling at the Straw Market is expected.
- Queen's Staircase & Fort Fincastle - 66 steps carved by hand, with a small fort and harbour views, about 15 minutes' walk uphill.
- Pirates of Nassau museum - a fun, family-friendly stop on a hot afternoon.
Worth a short tour
- Swimming pigs day trips - the famous pigs are in the Exumas, reached by boat or small plane. A full-day excursion, so book early. (Read our swimming pigs guide.)
- Atlantis & Paradise Island - a short taxi or water-taxi ride over the bridge for the aquarium, beaches and Marina Village.
- Blue Lagoon Island - a quick boat ride to a calm beach, dolphins and sea lions.
- Snorkeling & reef trips - half-day boat tours leave right from the harbour.
Good-to-know tips
- The Bahamian dollar is 1:1 with the US dollar, and US cash is accepted everywhere.
- Agree on a taxi fare before you get in - fares are by zone, not metered.
- Watch your ship's all-aboard time and leave a buffer; tours sometimes run long.
